• Al-Aqsa Mosque is one of the holiest mosques in the world and the third mosque to which Muslims travel for worship. It was also the first Qibla in Islam. Located in the Old City of Jerusalem, it covers about 144,000 m², representing the entire area within its surrounding walls.
• Al-Aqsa includes more than 200 landmarks, the most important of which are: The Dome of the Rock, with its golden dome and the sacred rock—the highest point in Al-Aqsa; and the Qibli Mosque, with its lead-colored dome on the southern side. Also, the Marwani Prayer Hall in the eastern area and the Bab Al-Rahma Prayer Hall.
• The mosque also has four main minarets: Bab Al-Maghariba, Bab Al-Silsila, Bab Al-Ghawanimah, and Bab Al-Asbat. It stands on the Mount Moriah plateau, with the sacred rock at its heart.
• Al-Aqsa holds a profound spiritual status in Islam, for it was the place to which Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was taken during the Night Journey (Al-Israa’), as mentioned in the Qur’an. In its courtyards, the Prophet led all the prophets in prayer before ascending to the heavens.
